Tourism, horticulture, agriculture cannot survive without safe environment: Wangnoo to Union Minister

Srinagar, June 10 (KNS) : Chairman of the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO), Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo, on Tuesday presented a memorandum on environmental conservation to Union Minister of State for Defence and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Sanjay Seth Ji, on the sidelines of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Convention held here.

The memorandum, which highlighted the critical link between ecological health and economic prosperity, was submitted in the presence of senior political leaders, public representatives, and members of civil society.

Speaking on the occasion, Wangnoo emphasised that Kashmir’s three key economic pillars—tourism, horticulture, and agriculture—can flourish only when the region’s environment is protected and preserved.
He urged the Union Minister to prioritise scientific conservation of lakes, wetlands, springs, and forests, describing them as the lifeline of the Valley.

“Environmental protection is not just an ecological necessity but an economic and social imperative,” Wangnoo said, while also drawing attention to the urgent need for restoration of Khushalsar, Gilsar, and other ecologically significant water bodies in the Kashmir region.

The Union Minister assured that the concerns raised in the memorandum would be looked into, as the government remains committed to sustainable development under the vision of a Viksit Bharat. (KNS).
