Indian Students at Kerman University Appeal to J&K Educational Consultants to Stop Sending Students to KMU Amid Hostel Concern

The Indian Students Association at Kerman University of Medical Sciences (KMU), Iran, has appealed to educational consultants and admission counsellors across Jammu & Kashmir to refrain from sending or recommending students to KMU until the serious concerns regarding hostel accommodation and student welfare are resolved.
A significant number of Indian students at KMU are from Jammu & Kashmir. Students say they have been facing persistent difficulties with accommodation, which is mandatory for international students. The university-affiliated accommodation is managed through a private contractor, leaving students with no alternative despite the compulsory residence requirement.
Students are being charged approximately USD 100 per person per month for accommodation, with four students sharing rooms of approximately 12 × 12 feet. Around fifteen students may share a kitchen and washroom. An additional USD 70 per month is charged for food services.
Students have repeatedly raised concerns regarding the charges, living conditions and management of the accommodation with the university’s International Affairs Department over the past year. However, they say that their representations have not resulted in any satisfactory resolution.
Students have also alleged that individuals raising questions about the accommodation arrangements have, on some occasions, been threatened with consequences involving their university portal accounts. Complaints regarding inappropriate treatment of students have also been raised.
A student speaking on condition of anonymity said, “We have raised these concerns through the university’s proper channels for more than a year. We are not questioning the academic quality of the university. Our concern is the accommodation system and the lack of an alternative for international students.”
The Association has therefore appealed to educational consultants in Jammu & Kashmir to properly inform prospective students and their families about these conditions and refrain from facilitating new admissions to KMU until the concerns raised by existing students are independently examined and satisfactorily addressed.
The students have requested that international students be allowed to arrange private accommodation at their own expense. Alternatively, if university accommodation remains compulsory, they have sought a transparent review of the accommodation charges, facilities and management arrangements.
The Association has also appealed to the Embassy of India in Tehran, Ministry of External Affairs, elected representatives from Jammu & Kashmir and relevant student organisations to take note of the concerns and assist in raising the matter with the appropriate authorities.
The Association maintains that its appeal is not against the academic institution or the people of Iran. It is solely aimed at ensuring that Indian students, particularly those from Jammu & Kashmir, are able to study in a safe, dignified and financially reasonable environment.
